SaaS & Salesforce Intelligence Digest
A fourth straight week of analyst target hikes (BMO, Citi, UBS, Wells Fargo) still can’t move CRM much — shares near $209 heading into Thursday’s Q2 FY27 print · Aug 18 rotation out of AI infrastructure sent capital into software, Salesforce +3.8% in a day · Headless 360 expansion bets the platform on becoming agent-agnostic infrastructure ahead of Dreamforce
▶ So What — Three Takeaways This Week
Since JPMorgan’s August 13 call, BMO Capital (to $230 from $215), Citi (to $204 from $187), UBS (to $210 from $185) and Wells Fargo (to $205 from $200) have all raised targets — yet CRM has drifted in a narrow band near $205–$209 rather than re-rating. Citi cited “strong Agentforce deployment traction” even while holding a Neutral rating, the same pattern across most of this week’s raises: analysts are underwriting the growth story without yet trusting the multiple. Thursday’s Q2 FY27 print is the first data point that can break that stalemate in either direction.
On August 18, Anthropic disclosed an annualized revenue run rate of $65 billion, below the $80B+ whispers circulating in Silicon Valley, and projected 2028 revenue of $190–$200 billion — also short of expectations. Paired with a Wall Street Journal report that nine major tech firms carry roughly $3 trillion in off-balance-sheet AI commitments and a 30-year Treasury yield at a 19-year high, capital fled semiconductors (Micron -7.3%, Marvell -9%, Ciena -10%) into beaten-down software (Salesforce +3.8%, Adobe +4.6%, Netflix +3.2%). It’s a relief rally built on someone else’s AI-spending anxiety, not on Salesforce-specific news — a distinction the August 26 print will test.
On August 19, Salesforce expanded Headless 360 with a Data 360 MCP Server exposing 200+ APIs as agent-callable endpoints, a Slackbot MCP client, and 100+ prebuilt agent skills — letting any authorized AI agent, not just Agentforce, act on governed Salesforce data and workflows. It’s a hedge on the platform thesis: if enterprises end up orchestrating agents from ChatGPT, Claude, or a competitor’s stack rather than Agentforce itself, Salesforce still wants to be the trusted system of record underneath. Ahead of Dreamforce, it reframes the AWU pricing debate — the bet isn’t only on agents Salesforce builds, but on data and workflow access it can meter regardless of who built the agent.
▼ Salesforce Spotlight $CRM · ~$209 · -24% YTD
BMO Capital raised its Salesforce price target to $230 from $215 on August 20, keeping an Outperform rating — the fourth target increase in eight trading days after JPMorgan, Evercore ISI, and Monness Crespi Hardt moved on August 13. The stock has not kept pace with the upgrades, drifting in a $205–$209 band rather than re-rating, which puts unusual weight on Thursday’s print to validate what the sell side is now pricing in.
Citi lifted its target to $204 from $187 and UBS to $210 from $185 on August 17, both citing strong Agentforce deployment traction while keeping Neutral ratings; Wells Fargo followed with a smaller move to $205 from $200, still Equal-Weight. The pattern across all three: sell-side analysts are raising numbers on fundamentals without yet committing to a Buy, effectively parking judgment on the multiple until Q2 FY27 results land.
Salesforce guided Q2 FY27 revenue to $11.27–$11.35 billion (+10–11% Y/Y) when it reported Q1 in May, alongside a raised full-year outlook of $45.9–$46.2 billion (+11% Y/Y). The company has beaten EPS in six of its last seven quarters, and prediction markets currently assign roughly 91% odds of another beat when results land after the close on August 26 — the first full quarter to show whether this month’s string of target hikes was earned or premature.
▼ Agentforce & AI Watch
Salesforce’s August 19 Headless 360 expansion adds a Data 360 MCP Server exposing more than 200 existing APIs as programmable, agent-callable endpoints, a Slackbot MCP client, and over 100 prebuilt agent skills. The architectural bet: any authorized AI agent — not only Agentforce — can securely reuse the business logic, permissions, and governance already built into the platform, positioning Salesforce as infrastructure for agents built elsewhere, not just its own.
Salesforce’s Agentforce line has crossed $1 billion in yearly sales, with combined Agentforce-and-Data-360 annual recurring revenue reaching approximately $3.4 billion — up more than 200% year over year off a small base. It is the clearest revenue proof point yet for the AI narrative bulls have been underwriting with target hikes all month, and the number Thursday’s print will need to show is still compounding, not plateauing.

Note: Four fresh rating actions landed since the last edition — Citi ($204, Neutral) and UBS ($210, Neutral) on August 17, Wells Fargo ($205, Equal-Weight) the same week, and BMO Capital ($230, Outperform) on August 20, all citing Agentforce deployment traction while stopping short of Buy ratings save BMO. CRM has drifted to around $209, roughly 43% above its June 26 low of $146.32 but still down about 24% year-to-date. The bull cluster (JPMorgan, Evercore ISI, BMO at $230–$250) keeps pace with fundamentals; the bear cluster (Bank of America $160, DA Davidson $175, Morgan Stanley $185) has not budged despite the AI ARR growth. Q2 FY27 results on August 26 remain the catalyst that settles which camp is right.
▼ Peer Radar
An August 18 rotation lifted Netflix (+3.2%), Adobe (+4.6%), and Salesforce (+3.8%) while semiconductor names sold off hard — Micron -7.3%, Marvell -9%, Ciena -10%. The trigger: Anthropic disclosed a $65 billion annualized revenue run rate, below Street whispers of $80B+, plus a Wall Street Journal report pegging nine major tech firms’ off-balance-sheet AI commitments at roughly $3 trillion, and a 30-year Treasury yield at a 19-year high. Software’s gain here is really AI-infrastructure anxiety finding a new home, not fresh conviction in application-layer fundamentals.
ServiceNow posted Q2 subscription revenue of $3,877 million, up 24.5% year over year, while HubSpot delivered 20% subscription growth with non-GAAP operating margin expanding to 20%. Workday, by contrast, remains down roughly 29% year-to-date despite its August 13 buyout-talk spike. The spread between ServiceNow/HubSpot execution and Workday’s multiple compression is the peer-group range Salesforce’s own Q2 FY27 print will be judged against on August 26.
▼ Macro Signals
The 30-year Treasury yield touched a 19-year high this week and the 10-year sits near 4.68%, a headwind for exactly the kind of long-duration growth cash flows enterprise SaaS names represent. It is a structural reason software multiples have compressed even as fundamentals (ServiceNow, HubSpot, Salesforce’s own AI ARR) keep growing — and a reason the August 18 rotation into software reads more as relative relief than a rate-environment turn.
Gartner’s 2026 forecast is unchanged: enterprise software spending up 14.7% to more than $1.4 trillion, with 40% of enterprise applications expected to carry task-specific AI agents by year-end, up from under 5% a year ago. The SaaS market itself is tracking toward roughly $465 billion for the year. The forecast keeps holding steady while the stocks underneath it churn on rate and rotation noise — a gap that August 26 earnings season should start to close one way or the other.
